10 Movies That Take Themselves Way Too Seriously
3. Max Payne (2008)
An adaptation of an otherwise brilliant gaming franchise, Max Payne is yet another example of a video game that shouldn't have be given the big screen treatment.
Starring Mark Wahlberg as a detective on the hunt for the killer who murdered his wife and child, Max Payne was directed in a desperate attempt to emulate the comic book stylings of the far superior Sin City, though all its dark aesthetic and melodic tone does is bury its central mystery in superficial set pieces.
Max Payne is, all told, gruelling, presented with little flare but trying painfully hard to craft a powerful tale of revenge. Like The Mummy, it also seems to be setting up a sequel or two, and I guess we can count our lucky stars those never materialised. This is one game that should have been left alone.
