10 Movies That Totally Ripped Off Die Hard
4. Air Force One (1997)
One of the classier Die Hard knock-offs, this Harrison Ford-led thriller doesn't exactly feature an everyman protagonist - Ford is the shoe-wearing, physically capable President of the United States, after all - but the premise is unabashedly Die Hard on a plane.
Russian terrorist Egor Korshunov (a sublimely barmy Gary Oldman) leads a team of soldiers who sneak on-board the POTUS' iconic aircraft and take the vessel hostage, demanding the release of violent despot General Radek (Jürgen Prochnow).
Ford's President Marshall tricks the terrorists into believing he's used the craft's escape pod, at which point they focus their efforts on threatening the lives of his wife and daughter.
You can see where this is going: we have a colossally outnumbered lone wolf tackling a gang of well-armed baddies - led by an acting legend, no less - in a confined location.
It's far more of a flag-waving exercise than Die Hard ever was - that is to say, not at all - and it's neither as sharply directed or well-aged, but Ford and Oldman's two-hander is comparable fun to the Willis-Rickman dynamic in Die Hard.
