10 Movies That Tragically Wasted Their Genius Premise

The Premise: Although first conceived as a closer prequel to Alien, it became something more distant but with a much bigger premise: a journey across the universe, discovering alien lifeforms, to uncover the secrets of humankind and its origins. Talk about compelling.

What Went Wrong: One issue with Prometheus is its connection to Alien, which straightaway alters how people perceive it, given how beloved the first two films in the franchise are. Whether it should've had more or not, that's not the biggest issue with how it tackles its premise.

The film raises an awful lot of questions about the Earth, and aliens involvement in our creation, which is a pretty big subject to attempt and tackle. Unfortunately, it doesn't do so in a satisfactory manner.

There are no answers given here, but even though there's nothing inherently wrong with presenting a mystery for the audience to ponder afterwards, it does this in a extremely convoluted way, without even analysing the questions, that results in a feeling of confusion, disappointment, and a feeling they were deliberately holding back for the sequel.

Prometheus looks good, it has a stellar performance from Michael Fassbender (because when isn't he great?), but is lacking where it really counts.
