10 Movies That Tragically Wasted Their Genius Premise

The Premise: What if the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs had actually missed? The Good Dinosaur presents an alternate history where this was the case, leaving dinosaurs and humans to co-exist.

What Went Wrong: They basically ignored the entire premise. Pixar's genius doesn't lie in them coming up with a novel idea - the aforementioned toys coming to life, a rat who can cook, the world of emotions inside a child's head - but the execution of it.

They use these concepts to deliver movies that are heartfelt and relatable, sending messages and dealing with issues that many live-action films wouldn't even attempt, for example the way Inside Out handles growing up, and that spot between being a child and a teenager, and explores human emotion in an incredible way.

The Good Dinosaur, then, is another fantastic idea, but it doesn't go any further. It simply establishes the status quo of the world, and the movie then becomes about Arlo being separated from his family and having to get back to them.

The relationship between him and Spot is touching at times, but hardly explores the idea of dinosaurs and humans co-inhabiting the Earth.

Also, why is it called The Good Dinosaur? Sure, Arlo's nice, but so are the rest of his family...
