10 Movies That Tricked You Into Thinking They Were Over

4. Hook (1991)

HookThe "False" Ending... The finale of Steven Spielberg's Hook involves the adult version of Peter Pan trying to recapture the magic of his youth, which basically means that he has to learn to fly and defeat Captain Hook. Once Peter has thwarted Hook (who we assume is killed), he returns home from Neverland with his children, Maggie and Jack, and designates one of the Lost Boys to be in charge and look after all the others. Everything is wrapped up, baby. But Wait...Hook has to be one of the worst examples of a movie that results in "ending fatigue," where a filmmakers going and going, teasing you consistently with scenes that resemble those of an ending, only to, like, never end at all. Roger Ebert put it best when he described Hook's ending: "Then comes the ending of the movie. Or the endings. One after another. Farewells. Poignancy. Lessons to be learned. Speeches to be made. Lost marbles to be rediscovered. Tears to be shed." Spielberg is certainly tricking us with the ending, but for all the wrong reasons.
