10 Movies That Used Great Songs To Trick You Into Watching Them

9. Strictly Sinatra

Over a decade before he took over the TARDIS as Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi wielded a director's megaphone for this 2001 crime drama. Starring Boardwalk Empire's Ian Hart and Kelly Macdonald, it showcased an array of timeless lung-stretchers from the peerless king of the crooners, as Hart's character struggled to stay one step ahead of the Glasgow underworld in his capacity as an American-influenced lounge singer. It's safe to say the subject matter for the movie was a bit downbeat, so Capaldi must have been banking on Hart's channelling of Sinatra as a major selling point. In fairness to the filmmakers it takes guts to interpret one of the all time greats, and this bunch must have had kahones bigger than the Rat Pack's bar tab. The gamble didn't pay off and the film was consigned to critical oblivion, but it exists as a British curio featuring the cream of Scotland's thespian crop (Brian Cox, Iain Cuthbertson), appearing with the likes of Hart, Macdonald, Richard E Grant and Jimmy Tarbuck!
