10 Movies That Used Great Songs To Trick You Into Watching Them
3. Hear My Song
Back to Ireland for the next entry, the charming 1991 tale of a man looking for heavyweight tenor Josef Locke, who performed the signature tune to haunting effect. As with The Commitments, this managed to attract the studio bosses' attention to UK film for another few minutes, in addition to introducing a whole new generation to Locke's voice (Ned Beatty played him in the movie). This was a Miramax-produced masterclass in using music as a springboard for a winning screenplay, providing a rom-com with a decidedly British flavour. Above all, the track's title made sense in relation to the plot! The Hobbit's James Nesbitt (pictured above) appeared in an early role. Actually that's him just moments after hearing about the project's success! Hear My Song wasn't the first big screen outing to present a fictionalized version of a famous singer, and it wasn't the last. It didn't have the razzle dazzle of something like Behind The Candelabra, showcasing Michael Douglas's Liberace. But it ploughed its own modest furrow to become as fondly-remembered as the song itself.
