10 Movies That Wasted Brilliant Concepts

8. The Hobbit Trilogy (2011-2013)

The idea of Peter Jackson returning to Middle-earth to tell the story of how Bilbo Baggins came across the One Ring is one everybody was quickly onboard with, what with The Lord of the Rings trilogy being such a beloved masterpiece of blockbuster moviemaking.

But any potential the prequel had was quickly squandered when it was revealed that J.R.R Tolkien's novel The Hobbit would be split into three movies, a creative decision that filled many fans with dread due to the novel's slight narrative scope and relatively shortness.

With an overindulgence in shoddy CGI, The Hobbit trilogy fails to capture any of the magic found in Lord of the Rings, ultimately watching like an empty money-grab that stretches its story to an uncomfortable length and misses much of the source material's emotional drive in the process. What a waste.
