10 Movies That Went Into Totally Unnecessary Detail
4. Every Single Piano Piece Was Played Correctly On Set - Amadeus
Miloš Forman's Amadeus stars an Oscar-nominated Tom Hulce as the legendary composer, and while it's not at all uncommon for actors playing musicians to learn to play their instrument in a somewhat superficial fashion, Hulce truly went above and beyond.
For most musical biopics, the actors in question will learn to play a few select pieces from the musician's oeuvre, and focus intently on the sections where the filmmaker intends to focus on the actor playing to ensure maximum believability.
But in the case of Amadeus, no such concessions were made for Hulce, who was never told which sequences would focus the camera on his fingers playing the piano.
As a result, he had to be able to convincingly play every single piece of Mozart's music featured in the film, regardless of whether his hands were actually shown playing it on-screen or not.
Yet to Hulce's credit, music professors who've examined his playing have noted that not a single piano key stroke is incorrect throughout the entire movie.
Impressive, even if Hulce's efforts were definitely well over-the-odds for what the film needed in order to succeed with audiences.
