10 Movies That Were Far Too Serious For Their Own Good

7. Battleship (2012)

battleship If you've ever been around to your grandparents house and rooted through the cupboards or under the bed trying to find their will or something, you might have stumbled upon some beaten up boxes containing objects called "board games." As boring as they look (they don't have screens - weird, I know), these things actually used to provide people with entertainment, apparently, and "Battleship" - which pits two players against once another and has them saying numbers and letters at one another for the space of two hours - was a mighty popular one. That's my glib way of getting across to you that Battleship is based on a board game. A board game. They made a movie based on a board game in the year 2012. That's how few original ideas there are circulating the Hollywood system, because it actually came to this. Instead of seizing the opportunity to make a fun movie, though, they went down the "let's do this deadly serious" route. All the actors act like they're in Pearl Harbor. Why? It's about aliens. What we needed to save this mess was a tone more akin to Snakes on a Plane. Fun!
