10 Movies That Were Fixed After Release

5. Bird Box

Netflix's apocalyptic thriller Bird Box was somehow responsible for something stupider than the Bird Box blindfold challenge - the film also co-opted a real-life tragedy for its own benefit.

A news report in the movie repurposed footage of the real-life Lac-Mégantic rail disaster, a train derailment which caused the deaths of 47 people in the town of Lac-Mégantic, Quebec in July 2013.

Some viewers quickly noticed and voiced their displeasure at the tastelessness online, prompting Netflix to respond that they sourced the footage from a vendor before refusing to remove it from the film, even with survivors of the disaster making personal pleas to the streamer.

Two months later, however, Netflix acquiesced after Quebec’s minister of culture and communications, Nathalie Roy, wrote a letter formally requesting the footage's removal.

Netflix replaced the clip with similar footage from an unspecified cancelled U.S. TV series, and apologised to the town's residents for any harm caused.
