Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse may be an incredible movie - one of the greatest animated or superhero films of all time, even - but when it hit big screens in June 2023, it wasn't quite perfect.

Within hours of the film's premiere around the globe, audiences reported issues with Across the Spider-Verse's sound mix, namely that Gwen Stacy's (Hailee Steinfeld) dialogue was mixed too low and drowned out by Daniel Pemberton's brilliantly bombastic musical score throughout the opening sequence.

These complaints continued during opening weekend, prompting Sony to send a new, updated version of the film to cinemas worldwide a week after release.

This new file tweaked the opening sequence's sound mix to give greater priority to Gwen's dialogue, and was of course the version used when the movie was released at home.

Quite how such a blatant error happened on such a huge movie is anyone's guess, but at least Sony were relatively quick to address it.
