For You Alone was a 1945 film British World War II romance melodrama that was directed by Geoffrey Faithfull, a then cinematographer. It was an independent movie filmed on a small studio best known for schlock B-Movies, but nonetheless it gained such notoriety that it was featured on the BFI’s list of “75 Most Wanted” – a list of 75 legendary movies that are now deemed lost.

The movie found success because it hit just at the right time. It was released three weeks after V-E Day and captured the spirit of the nation at that time. As a result, this movie proved a major box-office hit in 1945 and once again in 1948 and 1949 when it was re-released to cinemas. However, it became lost with the only lead as to why being the fact that prints of the film were available to hire from a now-defunct film company in the 1960s. The film’s documented success in 1945 caught the BFI’s attention and they hunted for a surviving print for over 70 years.

However, on the 31 July 2019, a 16mm safety print was found by a man called Ray Langstone at the UCLA Film and Television Archive, and it is currently being held as part of the Mel Torme Collection.
