10 Movies That Were Nearly Lost Completely
3. The Intruder
The 1975 slasher movie The Intruder was a shoddy little horror movie created by Chris Robinson, a famous actor from the 1950s/1960s. It was most notable for starring Mickey Rooney and Yvonne De Carlo, even if the budget could only afford them to be on set for one single day.
As one can imagine, The Intruder isn’t a good movie, even by slasher standards, but it could have been included in the annals of horror history as it predates Halloween – the movie that started the teen slasher craze. The problem is that when the final print was passed on to the original distributor, one that remains unnamed, they refused to release it altogether. Instead, they decided to shelve it, much to Robinson's dismay, and they also destroyed all the negatives in order for it to be forgotten. As a result, with the distribution companies’ liquidation and refusal of release, The Intruder was thought to be lost forever.
In 2012, however, it was announced that a single print had been found in storage. Five years of trying to find a distributor later, and this movie finally got a release straight to Blu-Ray by Garagehouse Pictures, allowing people to finally see this forgotten chapter of horror history.
