10 Movies That Were Too Damn Long

2. It Chapter Two (2019)

It (2017) was a major success for Hollywood and the horror genre. It earned a ton of money at the box office, scaring young and old viewers alike, and set a new standard for Stephen King book-to-screen adaptations.

At just over two hours in length, It was by no means a short film for the genre, but it held itself together thanks to a striking coming-of-age story and Bill Skarsgard's mesmerising, nightmare-inducing performance as the villainous Pennywise.

The sequel, then, should have kept things going full-throttle, and promised to thanks to a stellar cast - including James McAvoy, Bill Hader and Jessica Chastain - but it really didn't. It Chapter Two clocks in at an eye-watering 170 minutes, which for a horror film is a big no-no.

By the film's final act, where the grown-up Losers Club come together to confront Pennywise once more, not only has the once-terrifying clown lost his menace, but the whole story has grown stale, predictable and seemingly never-ending. With weak cast chemistry and plodding plotting, It Chapter Two was far too long and overstretched to maintain the charm and scares of its predecessor.
