6. Ruby Sparks
Zoe Kazan wrote the screenplay for Ruby Sparks which gives her, as an actress, the ability to fully inhabit the role of Ruby. This is extremely important because the film centers around the character of Ruby and a miscast would have been disastrous in regards to the movie's integrity. The story is very simple but also incredibly clever which makes the film a joy to watch because the audience never completely knows that will happen next. Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan play off of each other remarkably well which is to be expected since they are together in real life. Their chemistry together provides the movie with a real sense of heart that allows the viewer to really care for their characters. The story is fun and interesting but the best thing about it is that it succeeds in being a meditation on the relationships between men and women in an organic way without ever becoming preachy or drawn out.
