2. Salt (2010)
Lets get one thing straight: Salt is a good film. The action was well paced, the plot was interesting, and Angelina Jolie put on a great performance. When the grand scheme was revealed in the third act however, I could not help but think that this would make such a great television show. Bear with me on this one as I map out the thoughts that went on in my head after seeing the movie. The whole first film could have been the first season. The pilot episode has our hero, Evelyn Salt, accused as being a Russian spy. Her subsequent escape then leads her on the run for the next few episodes, The Fugitive style. The midseason finale can be Salt supposedly carrying out her assignment of assassinating the Russian leader in the church in New York. The second half of season 1 can be devoted to more exposition on the Russian spy program and revelation that Evelyn is actually against the Russians. The climax of the film, which involves a siege on the white house, can be a fitting two hour finale in which Salt faces off against another Russian spy. Season 2 would see Evelyn unearthing more of the mysteries of the spy program and hunting down other spies that are actually against America. This will eventually lead into season 3, where Evelyn and other spies she has allied with along the way work to take down the organization that formed them, as well as other enemies that have risen foreign and domestic. Sounds good right? It may have just been crazy enough to work. The Russian spy on American soil angle is already being covered by FXs fantastic The Americans, but had Salt the TV series come into fruition, it wouldve provided a more action packed thrill ride that would have still retained the suspense and paranoia that have made shows like Homeland and The Americans so riveting.
