6. The Losers (2010)
If anyone were trying to make a television series that can be labeled as this generations A-Team, look no further than The Losers. A comic book series by Andy Diggle and Jock and published by Vertigo. Unfortunately, Hollywood film studios buried its talons into it first, and what we got instead is a half hearted effort of an adaptation that got more negative than positive reviews and a so-so performance at the box office. The comic itself featured edgy material and dark but interesting characters. The relationships between the key group members are so dysfunctional that it provides enough entertainment as it is. Those key character traits and interactions were unfortunately watered down for the film, turning it into yet another mindless shoot em up featuring occasional bouts of comedy from a pre-Captain America Chris Evans. The movie itself was entertaining, but considering its fantastic source material, the whole thing just came off as a wasted opportunity. A series version of The Losers can make its home in any network, but considering its strong points are the adult material and violence, HBO or Cinemax would do well to adapt the comic series. Adaptations are all the rage now, whether its The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones. Think about it, the pilot episode can feature the doomed mission that put the titular Losers on the CIA blacklist, and the rest of the series can feature the team running counter missions against the CIA as well as side missions to help out friends or gather up cash. They have the skills, the tools, and most importantly the team dynamic. The ongoing arc for the series can be the hunt for Max, the CIA handler that sold them out. The comic only ran for 32 issues, but like other TV show adaptations now, they can always stray on a tangent then come back to the main story whenever it feels like. One cant help but think of all the possible action scenes and depths of character explored with a television show for the Losers. HBO definitely has the budget to pull off above average action sequences and cast better known actors than any other network. I guess well never know for sure.
