5. The Butterfly Effect (2004)
The Butterfly Effect was a project that has been sitting in development hell for awhile until Ashton Kutcher came along and helped financed it to become a movie. While it proved to be a solid effort with a thought provoking premise, imagine if a television producer came across the script for it and thought it would be a good idea to turn it into a series. Ok, so this would be a tougher sell for a TV show, because the premise would have to be tweaked slightly for it to last long. In the film, Evan (Kutcher) can go back in time to specific moments in his life for a short amount of time and change a certain event, which ends up changing the outcome in the future in ways he never expected. Understandably, this would get old too fast for a 22 episode season, so what if Evan can go back in time to OTHER peoples lives. It can be similar to The Dead Zone, where as soon as he makes contact with them, he can go back and change a moment in that persons life to change undesirable version of the future. Does this sound like a bit of a stretch? Maybe. However, its a high concept like this that can shake up the primetime lineup every now and then. It can go with a different person to help each week, and spice that up with the ongoing arc of Evan trying to change his own past. Still, the film itself was good, but the television possibilities were endless.
