10 Movies That Would Work Better As Horror

In Nida Manzoor's martial arts comedy, a defiant teen called Ria tries to stop her sister, Lena, from an arranged marriage, believing her groom-to-be, Salim, has ulterior motives.

For the first hour, Polite Society comes across as a delightful action comedy. However, things take a dark turn when Ria discovers a secret fertility lab in Salim's basement. On top of that, Lena starts having nightmares involving artificial insemination.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Ria eventually discovers Salim's mother, Shah, has orchestrated the marriage for her own nefarious schemes. Shah intends to (get ready for this) create a clone of herself and inseminate it inside Lena so her son can give her the life she always wanted. This means Salim would raise his cloned mother... as his own daughter.

Even though comedies have some real nutty villains, Shah's WTF plan would be more suited in Frankenstein, Don't Breathe, or Get Out. Nimra Bucha's performance as Shah is so utterly deranged, she comes across as a mad scientist or a serial killer (especially when she's torturing Ria with boiling hot wax).

Though Shah's scheme is way too dark for a light-hearted comedy, it's pitch-perfect for a horror flick.
