10 Movies That Would Work Better As Horror
6. Venom

Superhero blockbusters often contain dark elements, but there are few that fully embrace horror. It's understandable why, since it'd be difficult to market a horror-themed superhero.
But if there was any mainstream comic book film that should've indulged in gore and scares, it's Venom. Considering the titular symbiote feeds off human brains to keep its host, Eddie Brock, alive, it's no surprise to learn the Spider-Man spinoff was supposed to be R-rated.
Of course, Sony slapped the project with a PG-13 rating in the eleventh hour, hoping to make it as marketable as possible. Sony arguably made the right decision, since Venom banked over $850 million.
With that said, it was a shame to see the potentially dark story being revised into a wacky buddy comedy. What's more annoying is that Venom would easily fit into numerous sub-genres of horror. Eddie Brock is transformed into a monster against his will (body horror), is taunted by a disembodied voice (psychological horror), must face off against a psychotic alien (creature feature), and is compelled to kill (slasher).
Now, you could argue the studio didn't delve into horror, since Venom was intended to ultimately square off against Sony's kid-friendly cash-cow, Spider-Man.
But since Sony's Spider-Man Cinematic Universe has imploded, it's more frustrating how an R-rated Venom never saw the light of day.
