10 Movies Too Big To Fail (That Did It Anyway)

1. Batman v Superman

Why It Was "Too Big"

After Man of Steel reinvented Superman under Zack Snyder's direction, Warner Bros decided against giving the character a straight sequel and instead went with the masterplan of marketing Supes better by having him face off with Batman. Those two names on the bill together SHOULD have guaranteed a billion and Warner Bros knew it.

Add to the pile the presence of Ben Affleck as a new Batman and the debuts of other Justice League characters leading us to that assuredly brilliant ensemble. It should have made an absolute fortune and should have delighted critics and fans.

Why It Failed Anyway

How wrong we were. The film made money - over $800m to neet a profit of just $105.7 million (hey, at least it's a profit) - but the critics rightly hated it as a drab mess with a mean spirit and a fundamental ignorance to the source material. It failed to make the kind of money Warner Bros wanted for it and that was an utter disaster.

The Damage

Well, Zack Snyder went from being the DCEU's head of content to being dropped entirely (albeit quietly during the production of Justice League) And from there, the original plans for the DCEU died the death we all watched play out in public.
