6. The Fountain
When we found out that the writer and director of Requiem For A Dream was coming out with a new movie, we couldnt wait. What we got was a disgustingly beautiful masterpiece regarding time manipulation, historical conquests, and biblical relevancies. Following the present day story of a scientist looking for a cure to his wifes brain tumor and their parallel lives in other times, we learn the truth of consequence and existence in our lifetimes and how history is doomed to repeat itself. I cry every single time I see this movie. Every single time. At first I cried because of the plot. Then, I started crying because of the beauty. Then, I started crying because it was over. Now, I cant listen to Clint Mansell music without crying. It really is a curse. Cancer is always a sore spot for audiences because every one of us knows someone, or knows someone who knows someone, who has or had cancer. Whether or not they passed away from it, we know the pain and suffering they went through in their fight and how desperate we were to help solve the riddle that no one can seem to figure out. An overwhelming feeling of helplessness will wash over you when you watch this movie, which is sad enough in itself.
