7. The Perfect Storm
The first real-life event to hit this list, The Perfect Storm is a fictional re-telling of the real storm of the century that hit New England in 1991. A commercial fisherman and his crew set out for an average job. The crew suspects nothing until the captain decides to take the boat to a farther part of the ocean, boasting the best catches of all time. Reluctantly, the crew help get the boat to the fabled location where they rake in more fish than they can handle and face the standard issues associated with life at sea. On their trip home, however, they are clothes lined by a meteorological phenomenon called the Noreaster. On land, a Nor-easter usually brings unseasonable amounts of snow and vicious weather. At sea, it may as well be an apocalypse. In movies like these, where we are already pretty set on the ending, we go in knowing that not everyone is going to make it back alive. However, when we saw this movie, we were force fed only ultimate tragedy and loss. I try so hard not to spoil endings for the few poor suckers who havent seen these films yet, but its hard not to with movies like this one. At any rate, you have to be a special kind of person not to cry at the end.
