10 Movies Weirdly Changed (Nobody Knows Why)

9. Trimming The Ending - The Notebook

In February 2019, Netflix subscribers cried foul that the streamer's version of hit romantic drama The Notebook featured a bafflingly changed ending.

While the original tear-jerking climax saw an elderly Noah (James Garner) and Allie (Gena Rowlands) die peacefully in each other's arms while holding hands, the Netflix version changes this to simply show the couple holding hands, before cutting to shots of birds flying over a lake, followed by the end credits.

Basically, the Netflix release doesn't kill Noah and Allie off, robbing the film of its much-loved heartbreaking finale. Fans were pissed and made their feelings clear on social media.

While cut material is often a result of streaming services accidentally receiving edited-for-TV or edited-for-airlines versions of a movie, given that The Notebook's ending doesn't contain any objectional content whatsoever - unless the reality of old people dying is somehow offensive to you - it's an absolutely inexplicable change.
