10 Movies Where Characters Get Trapped In Ridiculous Places

Trapped between a rock and a hard place. Literally. Based on a true story, 127 Hours is the tale of extreme sports enthusiast Aron Ralston (James Franco), who becomes trapped after taking a tumble into a Utah canyon. Wedged between an enormous rock and the canyon wall, and no-one around for miles to lend a hand, Ralston becomes increasingly desperate...

Director Danny Boyle helms, doing a tremendous job of keeping things interesting, and exciting in spite of his audience all being fully aware of Ralston's ultimate fate. This is Franco at his most likable, too, garnering heaps of sympathy for Ralston in his entirely avoidable, unenviable position. Even better, if you can't stand James Franco, you get the pleasure of watching him lop his own hand off at the wrist.

A remarkable, harrowing movie, and performance. Put your hands together, everyone.
