10 Movies Where Every Character Thinks They're The Hero
1. Natural Born Killers
Oliver Stone's hugely controversial Natural Born Killers is a movie filled with deranged people who have some weapons-grade hero complexes.
First and foremost there's protagonists Mickey and Mallory Knox (Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis), who escaped abusive households to become a pair of Bonnie and Clyde-on-bath-salts serial killers.
Egged on by their glorification in the mass media as folk heroes, Mickey and Mallory ultimately buy into their own hype, even though they eventually turn the tables on tabloid journalist Wayne Gale (Robert Downey Jr.), killing him while recording the incident with his own camera.
Beyond the self-serving Gale suffering from a major case of Protagonist Syndrome, Detective Jack Scagnetti (Tom Sizemore) maintains a clean-cut, heroic facade, despite the fact he's actually a corrupt, murderous cop.
And finally we have prison warden Dwight McClusky (Tommy Lee Jones), who evidently views himself as the last line between civilisation and anarchy, and plots (in vain) to have Mickey and Mallory killed during a prisoner transfer.
True to the nihilistic spirit of Stone's thriller, basically everybody sucks in this movie.
