10 Movies Where Evil Won

1. Hereditary

Ari Aster's incredible directorial debut is one of the most startling and unforgettable films of any genre from the last few years - a deliciously intense, nerve-shredding horror classic.

The film revolves around Annie Graham (a brilliant Toni Collette), who begins to experience supernatural phenomena in her home following the death of her mother.

Over the course of the film, it slowly becomes clear that her dear old mum wasn't quite who she appeared - she was in fact part of a coven plotting to resurrect the demon Paimon by transferring his consciousness into that of a suitable male host.

Over the course of the movie, Annie and her family are dismantled by the coven - her daughter Milly (Milly Shapiro) is decapitated in a vehicular "accident", her husband Steve (Gabriel Byrne) is burned alive, and she herself ends up possessed, before slicing her own head off with a piece of piano wire.

And that's not even the worst of it - her son Peter (Alex Wolff), who drove the car that killed his sister, is emotionally brutalised during the film, weakening him enough that Paimon can enter him in the final scene.

Hereditary concludes with Paimon inside Peter, a virile host, with a fleet of endlessly loyal coven members ready to do his bidding. It is the very definition of evil prevailing, and absolutely haunting in every fibre of its being.

Was evil right to prevail in these 10 movies, or should the hero have won out in the end? Shout it out in the comments!
