10 Movies Where God Intervenes
2. Clash of the Titans (2010)
Like Jason and the Argonauts before it, Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans deals in Greek mythology, calling forth the gods that most of us know best from Disney's Hercules. Unlike Jason, it failed to bring any new technologies to the table and died on the alter of the big 3D boom that arrived in the wake of Avatar.
Perseus (Sam Worthington), the human-raised demigod son of Zeus (Liam Neeson), is drawn into a war between the gods and comes up against Hades (Ralph Fiennes), god of the underworld, who has a kraken and a desire for domination far beyond his dominion. With nothing to lose and a few weapons and tricks at his disposal, Perseus leads a quest to prevent Hades destroying Earth once and for all.
It should go without saying that throughout the movie Zeus intervenes from above; Hades intervenes liberally from below; but it's ultimately humanity that has the most resolve and wins the day. And, sure, it may not be much better than the 1981 original, but at least they opted to jettison Bubo the mechanical talking owl.
