10 Movies Where The Hero Should've Died

2. OJ Haywood - Nope

Star Wars
Universal

WARNING - So Many Spoilers

After horse rancher, Otis Haywood, is inexplicably killed by a nickel falling from the sky, his son, OJ, suspects the coin came from a UFO that's lurking in the area. Upon further investigation, OJ and his sister, Em, deduce the UFO isn't an alien spaceship - the object IS the alien.

Believing this discovery will make them famous, OJ and Em prepare an elaborate plan to lure out the creature, which they call Jean Jacket (after one of their beloved horses they had to sell when they were kids.)

When OJ's plan falls apart, Jean Jacket starts making its way towards Em, ready to devour her. To give her a chance to take a picture of the alien, OJ lures the organism towards him, seemingly sacrificing himself. Fortunately, Em manages to obtain a photo of Jean Jacket, just before it's killed.

Just as everything is winding down, Em turns around and sees OJ has made his way back to her, safe and sound.

Although it's nice to see OJ is still alive and kicking, it would've been more impactful if he wasn't. Throughout the story, we see OJ's cameraman, Jupe, and TMZ obsessing over Jean Jacket, purely for financial gain. For OJ to give up his life to prove the existence of aliens would show he only sought justice for his father's death, and never cared about fame and fortune.
