10 Movies Where The Villain And The Hero Are Close Relatives

6. Austin Powers In Goldmember

Star Wars Empire Strikes Back Luke Skywalker Darth Vader

Often considered as the weakest entry in the Austin Powers franchise, Goldmember has some scarce funny moments woven in between a convoluted plot that has clearly been debilitated by the vomitive repetition of worn-out “comedic” tropes and gags.

One of the biggest revelations presented in this film is the identity of Austin’s long lost brother, none other than the main antagonist himself, Dr. Evil. This moment of mutual recognition between the hero and the villain comes after carefree father Nigel Powers (Michael Caine) announces that both brothers were separated during a car explosion when they were infants, an event that led them to walk opposite paths in life.

The ridiculous and touching reunion, contrary to what the viewer may expect, is received with open arms and loving hearts by the two wacky siblings, repairing a broken relationship that had been perpetuated throughout decades by rivalry and hatred. Good brothers shouldn’t fight, much less battle for the salvation of humankind every time they feel like it’s about time for a new clash.

Turns out that reconciliation does work out for some folks, so that’s nice.
