10 Movies Which Refused To Give Fans What They Came For

7. The Predator - An Action-Horror Film

Like Knives Out, misleading the audience can in some ways harm a movie.

In the case of Shane Black's 2018 secretly meta The Predator, the director and its writer collaborated together to give audiences a take on the mythical alien warriors, that also included a generous scoop of gentle ribbing.

That decision didn't go down too well with audiences and critics; with fans of previous Predator outings upset that the source material they loved and appreciated appeared to be getting comically roasted by the film, and the critics and cinema-snobs disliked it for its cliche and nonsensical plot.

The Predator falls between a rock and a hard place, because inside it there is a fantastic movie that takes adored source material and gently pulls at its threads to unravel something silly. Maybe Shane Black and the marketing team should have warned fans of action movies that this wasn't completely the film they were setting out to watch.

Earnest takes on the Predator franchise have come, gone and will most likely return, but The Predator swung for the fences with a meta-comedic take that just didn't land with its fans.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
