10 Movies Which Refused To Give Fans What They Came For

6. Power Rangers (2017) - Super-Suited Action

Laying my cards down on the table, the "gritty" reboot of the Power Rangers wasn't that bad of a film.

The idea of The Breakfast Club gaining superpowers is a great concept to use, and the film does well to explore their nuances and character development. But the thing is, audience members also paid to watch a Power Rangers movie and the kids on screen don't get up to much Ranger-ing until maybe the last twenty minutes of the film.

All throughout there's an uncomfortable doubt that the characters on screen are ever going to morph into their power armour and kick some Rita Repulsa arse, and instead are just going to deal with their teenage angst whilst peeking around Krispy Kreme donut shacks. When the Rangers finally do morph, the movie begrudgingly gifts the audience with one martial arts fight sequence against the Putties (mainly obscured by water), followed by a messy Megazord fight sequence that felt too much like geriatric Pacific Rim.

It's a shame that there won't be a sequel, because at the very least the awkwardness of a hero origin story was out the way, and a sequel could have given audiences more Power Ranger action and less footage from what looked like a Green Day music video.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
