10 Movies With Crazy Foreshadowing You Totally Missed

4. "Blue Sky On Mars... That's A New One..." - Total Recall

Total Recall is, essentially, a headf*ck disguised as a motion picture. People have been debating the "reality" behind this film ever since it was first released into theatres, mostly because the plot concerns a man who may or may not be dreaming for the sum of the flick.

The plot concerns a Mars-obsessed man who agrees to have a memory implant, which may or may not go horribly wrong, depending on how you read the picture. Whilst there are many fans of Total Recall who believe that construction worker Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) actually does all the crazy secret agent based things he does across the span of the movie, the majority seem to think that his adventures are - indeed - the sum of a memory implant, and the movie we're witnessing is just a hallucination.

Aside from the fact that the movie fades to white at the end (as opposed to the usual fade to black schtick), there's a nice moment of foreshadowing to be heard during the scene where Doug gets his memory implant to support this; the male doctor in charge of inserting the implant muttering the line: "Blue sky on Mars... that's a new one." This is a nod to the climax of the movie, of course, in which Doug's actions result in the successful terraforming of Mars.

Which, you know, kind of hints at the fact that - as they say - "it was all a dream."
