10 Movies With Questionable Moral Messages

3. That Boy Doesn't Like You? Change Who You Are - Grease

Grease Grease is an immensely popular musical for a multitude of reasons - the music, the style, and even the sheer cheese appeal - but it's also ultimately a film with a pretty awful moral message for the millions of young girls who have grown up watching it. The story revolves around Sandy (Olivia Newton John) meeting Danny Zuko (John Travolta) on vacation, and soon enough realising they go to the same school, but Danny refuses to be seen with her while she's this nerdy, dressed-down type; he needs something a bit more...raw. Watched by a modern-minded woman - or anyone with a functioning brain stem - Danny comes across as a douchebag on numerous occasions, treating Sandy horribly to maintain his own street cred. This only resolves itself when Sandy realises that she will have to be the one who changes, sexifying herself up with a stark new appearance that blows him away. Wouldn't it have made more sense and been more wholesomely satisfying for Danny to be the one who changes?
