10 Movies With Random Subplots For Absolutely No Reason

4. Reese Finding Out Bruce Wayne Is Batman - The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight As if The Dark Knight didn't already have enough going on, Christopher Nolan introduces a subplot in which one of Wayne Enterprises' accountants, Coleman Reese, discovers that Bruce Wayne is Batman, and threatens Lucius (Morgan Freeman) with the information. Of course, Lucius gives the now famous retort, "Good luck!", but this isn't the end of it; Reese later goes to the media with what he knows, only for The Joker to threaten to bomb a hospital if Reese is not killed before he can reveal it. Though the Reese angle does give The Joker another way to cause chaos, doesn't it just seem a little bit lazy? Did we really need to convey again that The Joker was anarchic, and moreover, did we need this surprisingly involved subplot, which ends with Reese being saved by Wayne at an intersection, and Reese acknowledging his good deed?
