10 Movies With Random Subplots For Absolutely No Reason

5. The Landlord's Daughter - Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 Is there really any point to the character of Ursula, the landlord's daughter, in Spider-Man 2? Her character doesn't really belong in the movie, neither originating from the comics, nor really contributing anything to the story other than making it clear that Tobey Maguire has better chemistry with her than he does Kirsten Dunst (which is all the more reason that it should be cut, really). There has to be a less cheesy way to reduce Peter's depression rather than having the cute girl next door give him some cake. It would be fine if this had some sort of payoff later on, but it doesn't; Ursula neither ends up with Peter - as would have made comic fans everywhere rage - nor ends up as one of the villain's hostages, despite appearing again in Spider-Man 3. It's just utterly, utterly pointless.
