10 Movies With Ridiculously Subtle Foreshadowing That Nobody Noticed
5. King Louie Is Right, Fire Is What Makes A Human - The Jungle Book
The DVD release strategy of Disney's Animated Classics is business brilliance; whereas pretty much every other in film in existence has continued availability, Disney tend to only let their films out of the vault for a short window, allowing for rabid buying and inflated prices. For fans of traditional animation this manages to delight and frustrate in equal measure. You may spend years waiting for your favourite to be released from the vault, eventually getting the elation of it finally being available dampened the sting of a tenner from your wallet.
One that caused quite a splash when it was released was The Jungle Book, the last film master Walt saw over and the last truly great film before the nineties resurgence. Adapted from Rudyard Kipling's Scout inspiring book, one of the film's most fondly remembered characters is the crazy King Louie. King of the swingers, this jungle VIP has one of the movies catchiest songs, but also a mind blowing bit of foreshadowing that completely alters his character.
rWhen Louie captures mancub Mowgli he believes the only difference between the two is the ability to harness fire. Silly, until we see later on that's exactly how Mowgli beats Shere Khan, the Tiger who strikes fear in the rest of the Jungle. On a simplified level, the reason the mancub makes it to the human settlement is because he can master fire, proving Louie perceptively right.
