10 Movies With Ridiculously Subtle Foreshadowing That Nobody Noticed

4. The Rainmaker's Origin Myths Are The Film€™s Finale (Almost) - Looper

TriStar Pictures/FilmDistrict

Time travel movies appear to be returning to the Back To The Future approach to the butterfly effect; it only really matters when it directly affects the plot. While that makes it sounds like an awfully contrived thing, there€™'s been some standout films that have used it to explore exciting themes.

About Time had Richard Curtis subverting his stammering cliches with time alteration, but the hallmark has to be Looper. With it€™s constantly changing, paradox rich science what can happen to the characters is so unpredictable that you wouldn't really be expected to find much foreshadowing (beyond the obviously misleadingly weakness of TKs). Well you expected wrong; Rian Johnson did a good job of hinting at the mystery of the Rainmaker.

Cid was already a pretty messed up kid before Old Joe came along, making it a pretty easy guess, but his identity was further set up by the posters in his room; those, along with some of his drawings, are of the Rainmaker's future henchmen. There'€™s more than just identity hints though. When Old Joe discusses the mysterious crime lord he relays rumours he €œhas a synthetic jaw and saw his mom get shot.€ Obviously that hadn't happened in Joe€™'s version of the future, but is almost what happened to the current iteration of Cid.
