10 Movies With Title Characters Who Aren't The Lead

7. Weekend At Bernie's

Godfather Marlon Brando
TriStar Pictures

Weekend at Bernie's is a 1989 comedy film about two young men who discover that their boss is dead. Afraid they might be punished for his death, they have to pretend he's still alive, making a puppet out of his corpse. The boss/puppet hosts parties, outwits the mafia, and has sex with his girlfriend all while dead.

So, which character is Bernie? The boss who dies at the very beginning.

Granted, Bernie the corpse puppet helps the film stand out among other dumb comedies, but he's more of a prop than a character. Bernie's actions don't affect the plot much, especially considering how early on in the movie he dies. Still, Weekend at Bernie's is a much better, and more accurate, title than Weekend at Some Guys Named Larry and Richard's.
