4. John Carter
A lot of people were expecting great things from this film (based on the book Princess of Mars), a sci-fi action film based on a classic literary property that clung to an interesting concept. But what audiences received, of the very few who actually went out and saw this money pit, was a rigid and featureless encounter. Much effort was put into this movie, of course, but audiences just didn't buy it. Could blame advertising, critics, or the movie in general - whatever the case, it flopped. Big time. John Carter was a great opportunity for entertainment and story, but the narrative fell flat. And flat is the exact word to use. I could see where it got close every now and then but it just never gripped the bar. The posters and cover for the DVD case look very exciting and bright, but the movie itself never wavers in this direction. Sorry John Carter - I know a lot of people who would like to see a sequel to this thing, but once really has proven itself to be enough.
