10 Movies You Didn't Know Were Half-Assed Sequels

9. Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993)

url-4It's A Half-Assed Sequel To... Annie Hall (1977) It may come to surprise casual Annie Hall fans that - back during the days of its inception - Woody Allen originally planned for the movie to involve a "murder mystery" aspect, albeit admist all the romantic stuff. After deciding that it didn't really work and that he'd probably only win a Best Picture Oscar and beat Star Wars if that part was cut, Allen made Annie Hall his first movie free of slapstick and hi-jinks. And so the murder mystery storyline was shelved for years, until in 1993, he took it out again and began to work it into a complete movie. Unfortunately Allen's conflict with Mia Farrow at the time meant he was missing his usual leading actress, so he called up Diane Keaton and got her to play his wife instead. And so a role that was originally written for her in the Annie Hall days came back 'round again, and both Allen and Keaton got to play the couple they might've ended up as should they have stayed together in Annie Hall. A sort-of homage to light Hitchcockian thrillers, this is the only movie on this list that's genuinely worth checking out, if only to see the old Allen/Keaton chemistry firing on all cylinders.
