10 Movies You Didn't Know Were Named After Songs

9. The Crying Game

Chris Evans Knives Out
Miramax Films

This psychological thriller, set against the backdrop of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, deals with difficult subjects such as race, nationality, sexuality and gender. It is probably best known for having one of the most famous reveal scenes in movie history.

Although the initial story of the film has it's roots in a 1930's short story called Guests Of The Nation, it would be a 1960s pop song that provided the name. Writer and director, Neil Jordan, was never happy with the original working title of The Soldier's Wife. Only when it came to arranging what music would be included in the film did inspiration strike.

With the Pet Shop Boys being involved in the musical score of the movie, it opened up the opportunity to have Boy George cover the Dave Berry hit The Crying Game. Jordan felt the name of the song was far better than his original idea, and so the title to a British movie classic was born.
