10 Movies You Didn't Know Were Named After Songs
7. Boys Don't Cry
Boys Don't Cry deals with the tragic true story of Brandon Teena, who was the victim of rape and murder due to his trans identity. Starring Hilary Swank as Teena, the film was critically lauded for it's acting performances, and willingness to tackle the subject of hate crime. Swank would win Best Actress for her role.
Although the screenplay of the film was largely based on the 1998 documentary, The Brandon Teena Story, it's title was lifted from a song by The Cure.
Boys Don't Cry was released as The Cure's second single in 1979. The song's lyrics deal with a man trying to disguise his distress from losing out in love through being outwardly boisterous and masculine.
Although the film's subject matter is not the same as the song, one cannot deny that the title fits both of them perfectly. A cover version of the song by Nathan Larson would be used for the film.
