10 Movies You Didn't Know Were Named After Songs

6. Boyz N The Hood

Chris Evans Knives Out
Columbia Pictures

John Singleton's 1991 coming-of-age drama follows the lives three young African-Americans growing up in South Central Los Angeles. The film deals with racial violence, police brutality and gang violence. Singleton drew from real life for inspiration, basing the story on his own personal experiences and those of people he grew up with.

It was one of the lead actors who would provide the inspiration for the film's title. Ice Cube, who was playing the part of Doughboy, in his first acting role, had written the song Boyz-N-The-Hood whilst he was in NWA. Although it was performed by Eazy-E it was Cube who provided the lyrics.

The song, which was first released as a single in 1987, deals with similar themes to that of the film, and seeing that Singleton grew up in the same environment as that of Ice Cube, the NWA and other Los Angeles based rappers, it is no surprise that he would find inspiration from one of their tracks.
