10 Movies You Had No Idea Joss Whedon Worked On
8. Titan A.E.
Another of Whedon's screenplay credits sits with this underrated 200 sci-fi animated film, a space opera of 2D animation with witty jokes and impressive effects. Whedon pokes fun at his time working on this film, having stated in the past that he felt it was a little behind it's time, and when asked on a Reddit AMA (2012) which joke we was most proud of in all of his work, he replied, "Titan A.E."
This film has a pretty decent cast, boasting Matt Damon, Drew Barrymore and Ron Perlman to name a few, and hilarious Firefly-esque quips on board the ship are unmistakably Whedon's work; protaganist Cale (Damon) says to Preed (Nathan Lane), "I happen to be humanity's last hope," to which Preed responds, "I weep for the species," - something we can certainly imagine another certain space captian muttering to his crew.
Whedon is one of three credited with the screenplay (also Ben Edlund and John August), and after lots of back and forth, years of pre-prodcuction and $30 million was spent in early development of the film alone, the reins were handed over to Don Bluth and Gary Goldman to complete, on the back of their success with 1997's Anastasia.
