10 Movies You Hated Before You Even Saw Them

1. Music

With a host of petitions calling for this movie to be banned, boycotted or removed from awards lists raking in over 200,000 signatures, this is perhaps one of the most despised films on this list. Even before the film’s release, people had done their research and made their minds up: This movie was a bad idea.

The story is of a recovering addict (Kate Hudson) caring for her younger sister (Maddie Zeigler) who is Autistic. Not a single Autistic person was notably involved in the production of the movie, instead Sia worked with Autism Speaks, a ‘charity’ who advocate for a host of harmful things.

The portrayal of Music (the Autistic younger sibling) was just every stereotype rolled into one, with critic Sara Luterman citing the “acute discomfort of watching her clumsily ape disability.”

Some harmful and inappropriate ways of responding to an Autistic person’s needs are advocated for and displayed, and Music’s character is scarcely more than an object or a plot device to push forward her older sibling’s storyline.

Trust me, the list of Bad Things goes on and on. One of the worst bits about all of this has been Sia’s response, with a crowd favourite example of her poor attitude toward the Autistic community being when someone called her out on not casting an Autistic person as Music, to which she responded “maybe you’re just a bad actor.”

Or... maybe you just made a terrible, terrible film.
