10 Movies You May Not Realise Are Based On The Work Of Shakespeare

1. Disney + Hamlet = The Lion King

Shakespeare Shes The Man
Disney

Arguably the best of all the adaptations, The Lion King is the smash hit animation that helped re-establish Disney as the box-office smashing phenomenons, after a couple of less than stellar decades in the 70s and 80s.

The classic tale retells the story of Hamlet, replacing the darkly themed story and characters with a pride of singing lions, stunning animation, and a belter of a soundtrack headed by Elton John that will have you singing for days. There’s no doubting the similarities between the two, Simba, the rightful heir to the throne, must battle it out with his evil uncle Scar after tragedy strikes the pride.

The Lion King of course went on to become one of the most successful movies of all time, winning numerous awards, and even finding success on stage as well, bringing the story full circle with the Shakespeare’s original tragedy.
