15 years later and we should all know the twist by now. It turns out that the whole time M. Night Shyamalan was a hack. Joking aside, The Sixth Sense is a great film, and not just a single fluke as Unbreakable is easily on par if less iconic. It was actually a big sleeper hit at the time earning nearly $300 million at the U.S. box office (equivalent to nearly $480 million today, which is a lot) and unexpectedly earned 6 Oscar nominations including Picture, Director and Screenplay. It was indeed, the biggest horror movie since The Exorcist and a big game-changer. Bruce Willis stars as Dr. Malcolm Crowe, a child psychologist who treats Cole Sear, played by Haley Joel Osment, a young boy who can communicate with the dead. At first skeptical, hes later convinced and finally helps Cole comes to terms with it. Meanwhile, Malcolm struggles with his relationship with his wife, however, its revealed that he was dead the whole time after an incident with an ex-patient detailed in the prologue. The film is littered with subtle hints to his death. You could argue that the prologue to the film is completed and not one shot away from confirming the kill and watching the scenes where he talks with his wife it makes you wonder how you missed it the first time. This does makes Malcolm and Coles relationship all the more heartwarming though, if unsettling. At least theyll have each other for the rest of Coles life.
