10 Movies You Weren't Supposed To Understand
2. Vivarium
Every millennial's worst nightmare: a dreary life in the American suburbs. Or at least that is what the creators of Vivarium assumed when making the film. In truth, the creators may have been a little out of touch when thinking up that as an ingenious horror movie concept.
But where the clearly non-millennial creator may have been a little out of touch with their target audience, they did still manage to create an eerie horror movie based on the concept of being trapped in a suburban life.
The movie follows Tom and Gemma, a young couple seeking to buy their first home. When the couple agree to view a home with a strange real estate agent, they find themselves trapped in the unusual neighbourhood with no way to escape. The movie then ramps up to a completely new level of weird when a baby is left on their doorstop with the instructions that they can leave IF they raise the child.
The movie is extremely bizarre and as we watch the child grow up supernaturally fast, our main couple gets weaker and weaker. The movie ends with Tom and Gemma dying and the child, now fully grown, returning to the estate agents to replace the one we met at the beginning.
The horror gives no explanation for the film's events or the strange alien race of men, and the audience is left with so many questions, including: what the hell did I just watch?!
